How this map was made, and why

Ordnance Survey mapping is licensed and cannot be reproduced on a public site without permission, so none is used here. Instead every line on this map is derived from OpenStreetMap, which is open data under the ODbL 1.0 licence, fetched via the Overpass API and simplified into the GeoJSON files this page loads.
